I don’t want to have to wait until the third play of the album to start fully enjoying it. I want more than anything, however, for Drake’s next album to be a vivid and obvious show of growth artistically and musically. While it seems Drake hasn’t grown much artistically, the album has quite a few good songs: "Faithful," "Weston Road Flows," "Views," and "Redemption" are some of the songs that really stood out for me, aside from Controlla (the one with Popcaan) and "One Dance," which were both songs I already played often. Something that made many of the individual songs almost unmemorable. This album is not an artistic progression from “Nothing Was the Same” or even “If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late.” It had great samples, a great vibe (it emanated “cruising down the highway at midnight vibes” and it definitely will be playing during my midnight summer car rides), but there was just something missing.

There are a couple amazing songs, of course, but there are also some songs that I desperately tried not to skip on my second and third listen so that I could get a full understanding of the album.

But, this album was extremely underwhelming. So, this is not coming from a place of hate or annoyance or simple dislike for the rapper, it’s coming from the mouth of a genuine fan. I love him physically, I love him musically, I really just love Drake. Now, keep in mind, as I blast my opinions of the album, I love Drake. I anticipated that Drake would easily live up to the hype I mean come on, he’s Drake. As the world broke out in a frenzy, I anxiously anticipated the greatness of the album.
